Year 3

It has been another busy term for our students with excursions, incursions and various school activities including NAPLAN, for which we congratulate our students on their efforts throughout.

For English, students have been focusing on persuasive writing, looking at how to structure arguments and provide opinions about issues.

In maths, students have been looking at addition, subtraction, money and measurement. They have looked at different ways to add and subtract and applied this skill when calculating money. Students have also looked at how to read a variety of maps by using compass points and grid locations.

For integrated studies students have been focusing on geography. We have been learning about Australia’s history. To enhance the learning we went on an excursion to the Melbourne Museum. The students also enjoyed taking a walk around the city to look at famous landmarks around Melbourne. They have also completed various mapping activities in class where they have identified Australia’s geographical features including both natural and man-made landmarks.

For health subject we have been looking at healthy eating and food hygiene with ‘The Travelling Kitchen’ coming into our classrooms and teaching us about a variety of healthy foods, their nutritional benefits and how we need to be more safe and hygienic in the kitchen, to avoid injuring ourselves or making others sick.

The students were also very fortunate to have St John’s Ambulance visit our school and demonstrate basic skills of first aid.

For physical education, students have greatly enjoyed learning about cricket skills. We worked with Josh Raymer from the Melbourne Renegades who showed students the rules and fundamental skills of this all-time favourite Australian sport.

We would like thank all our students for their great effort and hard work. We would also like to thank our parents and guardians for their continued support of their children’s learning.

Kindest regards,
Ms Medine Cilek & Mr Erkan Kocdemir
